The IntelliSoft 370 series water softener from Kenmore -- part of the Sears Brands label -- also goes by model number 625.383760. First offered in 2009, this device helps prevent hard water, a key cause of cloudy residue in the home's water supply. According to Kenmore, the appliance produces enough soft water to meet the needs of a family of eight. With such a tall order, the IntelliSoft 370 may run into the occasional operational hiccup. If it does, turn to troubleshooting tips directly from Kenmore.
Power Problems
Without power, the IntelliSoft 370 series water softener won't operate at all. This appliance requires a grounded, indoor, 120-volt electrical outlet. A tripped breaker or blown fuse may lead to a power outage, so check your home's electrical service panel and correct these issues as necessary. If you have to replace the softener's transformer, use only a Class II, 24-volt transformer. If the softener refuses to power on, move the plug to an outlet no more than 10 feet away from the appliance.
Water Woes
If water flow seems weak, check the soft water line connected to the water softener and ensure the valve is open. To encourage water pressure, place the softener as close as possible to the pressure tank or water meter during installation. Freeing the drain hose of kinks or bends also helps remedy water flow issues, salty tasting water or a flooded brine tank. Ensure the water running through the softener is no more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit, otherwise parts damage and operational errors may occur. Likewise, the appliance needs water pressure between 20 and 125 pound-per-square inch to operate properly. If your water pressure exceeds 125 psi, contact a plumber to install a pressure reducing valve.
Salt Solutions
Because the IntelliSoft 370 relies on brine to produce soft water, a lack of salt leads to a lack of soft water. To refill the salt supply, open the storage tank and fill it a quarter to halfway full with water softener salt nuggets or pellets -- do not use rock or solar salt. Crusting of salt, known as a salt bridge, causes hard water. To remedy this, carefully push a broom stick or similar tool into the salt in the storage tank, moving the tool up and down to break up the bridge. If your IntelliSoft 370's salt supply seems to consistently run short, keep your outdoor faucets set to hard water to save on salt.
More Tips
Reduced flow or the presence of hard water may indicate a dirty nozzle. To clean the nozzle, remove the softener's top cover and twist off the nozzle cap. Remove the nozzle, O-ring, screen support, screen and gasket, and run them under warm water until clean. When you replace the nozzle components, lubricate the O-ring with silicone grease or petroleum jelly. If your IntelliSoft 370 produces hard water, set the hardness level by pressing the “Select” button and releasing it when “Hardness” appears on the unit's display. Adjust the hardness setting with the Up and Down buttons until the number matches the grains per gallon figure show on your water analysis report, which should have been acquired during the installation of the appliance.
Contact Kenmore
If “Serv” appears on the appliance's display, or if regular troubleshooting doesn't do the trick, contact the water softener's manufacturer. Call Kenmore's product questions line at 888-536-6673 or its Sears home services and repair center at 800-469-4663. You can also submit a query at the company's official website. When purchased new, the IntelliSoft 370 comes with a general one-year limited manufacturer's warranty, a three-year warranty on electronic parts and a 10-year warranty against leaks, so Kenmore may cover the cost of some repairs.
